Before we get into the Pi2Day news, let's delve deeper into the questions surrounding artificial intelligence, blockchain and Pi network , which was asked to the community earlier this week: “How does GenAI relate to the Pi network?”
Solving Pi for an AI-driven world
The ultimate benefit of any technology, including blockchain, lies in solving fundamental problems of humanity. Today we are at a pivotal moment in terms of breakthroughs in artificial intelligence infrastructure. However, the world faces the following problems that have not yet been solved.
- The origins of the artificial intelligence application layer between the artificial intelligence infrastructure and real production;
- Lack of clarity about the role of human labor and intelligence; and
- Persistent questions about human well-being in a world of pervasive AI, where AI could generate unprecedented amounts of output, and how the resulting benefits are distributed to human beings in a way that maintains an acceptable or improved level of equality and justice.
Pi believes that the world can solve these problems using both AI and blockchain technologies. According to Pi, the convergence of the two technologies extends beyond the typical understanding of “decentralized AI applications,” which often focuses narrowly on decentralized data, computing, governance, and ownership for AI accountability. While these aspects remain important, the Pi network sees a more fundamental use for blockchain: scalable and affordable solution for social distribution and redistribution . Pi therefore emphasizes a broader vision for blockchain and AI: the macro-level decentralization of AI-generated output through blockchain. Through blockchain technology, AI output should be fairly and inclusively distributed among people in crypto networks, thereby addressing key challenges related to human well-being, economic equality, and the sustainable role of human intelligence in an AI-driven future.
Achieving this vision requires several key components. First, a clear vision must be established. authenticity , accurately distinguish real people from AI entities to ensure that distribution is directed to real people. Second, there must be a thriving and fruitful artificial intelligence application layer, that connects advanced AI infrastructure with practical real-world production; that is, enabling creators to easily create innovative AI-based applications integrated with blockchain. Third, for the widespread distribution of these applications, it is necessary dynamic social network , which will facilitate their practical use by many people and enable sustainable business models. Finally, the use inherent properties of blockchain, such as is accountability and transparent rights management, ensuring that the output generated by these applications directly and fairly benefits real human users within the ecosystem.
The Pi Network is uniquely positioned to effectively address these challenges, having already created the key building blocks it needs to do so. To ensure authenticity, Pi has developed native KYC solution , which requires every account to pass identity verification before joining the Pi mainnet, ensuring a high level of humanity in the community. Currently, over 13,7 million people have moved to the Pi mainnet after verifying their identity through KYC. To meet the need for a large social network, Pi boasts one of the largest global cryptocurrency-enabled social networks with over 60 million engaged members in more than 200 countries and regions.
To ensure blockchain accountability and transparent functions Pi was created as a blockchain project and in its mining mechanism has leveraged fair design principles to ensure that the benefits of its network are widely available and shared by the community. Finally, with the goal of facilitating a thriving and fruitful AI application layer, Pi officially launched today Pi App Studio , which is powered by GenAI features and enables creators – not just engineers – to easily build and run innovative blockchain-integrated AI applications. Existing Pi products, such as Pi Ad Network, .pi domains and Pi Wallet, along with today's release of the Ecosystem Directory Staking feature, support Pi App Studio and further enable practical use of these applications and help build sustainable business models in the Pi ecosystem.
Pi App Studio: A new model for app creation in the era of artificial intelligence
Pi App Studio is one attempt to achieve a vision shared by many technologists: a world where anyone can build and run apps using human languages without needing a technical background. In addition to GenAI support, important aspects that differentiate Pi App Studio from other current programming platforms are GenAI Vibe, its guided app creation workflow, access to millions of potential creators and users of these generated apps, which ensures an efficient iterative process that we believe is essential for building real products. So instead of just building and running applications Pi App Studio, together with other existing components of the Pi ecosystem, allows the creation of functional online products .
The need for managed workflows stems from Pi’s realization that not everyone has the expertise to build products. For anyone to be able to build products, overcoming the technical barrier to entry is not enough – that’s only half the battle. With the advent of artificial intelligence, the limiting factor in app creation has become an increasing shift from technical skills to creativity and distribution, i.e. what to build and where to deploy.
Guided workflows are essential to helping ordinary people apply and integrate their knowledge, expertise, and talent in a given field into real products that benefit others. To explain this analogously, if you give a blank canvas and a brush to someone who has never learned to paint, they may not be able to create a good painting, even if they have the necessary tools. Creating a beautiful painting that encompasses that person’s unique perspective and creativity requires an educational and guided workflow that provides them with the necessary structure for creating their work.
New products need users to test and provide feedback, which allows for further iteration and refinement of features and business models to ensure the sustainability of the products. This is what the existing social networks and ecosystem components of the Pi Network can provide to app creators. App creators can benefit from feedback from existing pioneers on their products, allowing them to improve their products and build business models on Pi with the help of existing Pi products such as the Pi Ad Network, .pi domains, Pi Wallet, etc. In turn, the Pi ecosystem benefits from scalable app creation by app creators, tooling expansion, and community engagement.
The significance of this AI initiative is threefold:
- Contributing to the world's AI application layer. Pi Network innovates through guided application creation workflows on top of recent breakthroughs in AI infrastructure around the world, while leveraging the creativity of the Pi community and the distribution channels of the Pi social network;
- Experimenting to explore an economic model that would ensure the sustainable coexistence of human intelligence and artificial intelligence using blockchain – a fundamental global problem that needs to be solved in the future era of artificial intelligence; and
- Expanding the capacity of non-technical pioneers at the local level to use their expertise to innovate, create applications, and develop ecosystem tools using artificial intelligence and blockchain.
This allows for more iterations and attempts by a wider range of people to build applications in a decentralized manner – at a lower engineering cost than was required to build applications in the Web2 era.
By combining artificial intelligence with the tools and collective resources of the Pi Network, Pi App Studio is poised to help people turn knowledge into real-world applications that others can use and benefit from.
The version released today includes two capabilities. The first is a workflow that allows Pioneers to create topic-specific chatbots, trained and automated with AI. These chatbots leverage the knowledge and expertise of creators in the field to improve the GenAI chatbot and better answer users’ questions on specific topics and personalize the user experience. While generic chatbots can provide answers, AI-enhanced chatbots that leverage the expertise and creativity of individual creators can deliver more personalized answers and a more diverse user experience—potentially going beyond traditional chatbot interfaces. After all, who says question-and-answer interactions always have to be “chatbot”? What if they appeared as step-by-step guides, interactive quizzes, recommendation tools, or even something playful like a magic 8-ball? Moreover, most everyday users outside of the tech-savvy and AI-savvy audience don’t yet rely on generic GenAI chatbots for their everyday information needs. To accelerate mass adoption and increase human productivity, more targeted, topic-specific AI applications—infused with the expertise and creativity of individual creators—can offer a more intuitive and effective entry point for broader public engagement with AI.
The second option is an open platform in beta, which allows pioneers to build any type of app they already have in mind, without the need to code. Pioneers can use human language, not code, to create the app they want to build and own. As this is still a beta version, please note that access may be limited and the user experience is still being improved.
More workflows built on an existing platform can lead to the creation of additional types of applications.
Once creators’ chatbots, other types of apps, or custom apps are ready, Pi App Studio helps them automatically deploy apps to cloud servers using AI and run custom apps on the Pi ecosystem. Based on user feedback, creators iteratively determine what resonates with Pioneers, make changes to their apps through a process similar to the creation flow, and redeploy and publish their apps to the community—all through Pi App Studio, with no coding required.
To increase user engagement and participation, as with other products, Pi App Studio creators can also leverage other Pi products, such as the Fireside Forum and Pi Chats, to connect their app with the broader Pioneers community. To build a business model on Pi, creators can later leverage the Pi Ad Network, where Pi app owners currently generate revenue, while also applying for a .pi domain for their app for easy accessibility.
The unique strengths of the Pi Network—such as the potential engagement of tens of millions of verified Pi pioneers who use and own the Pi cryptocurrency—incentivize app creators to prioritize quality, growth, and accuracy. The better an app performs, the more likely people are to use it.
So, building apps with Pi App Studio means you can own and run a company and a product built entirely on your knowledge and ideas , which is enabled by the use of artificial intelligence and supported by the Pi blockchain ecosystem.
Ecosystem Directory Staking: Use Pi to support Pi apps and utilities in the ecosystem
Ecosystem Directory Staking is a new platform-level tool that provides a decentralized way for pioneers and businesses to actively support and promote the evaluation of Pi applications and tools in the ecosystem interface. Accessible through the Pi browser and launching on June 28, this feature allows pioneers and businesses to stake their Pi on the Mainnet blockchain for applications of their choice, directly increasing their position in the ecosystem. In addition to the utility of Pi in staking, the goal is also to increase the visibility of applications that are higher quality and provide meaningful community engagement.
Strategically, it is a platform-level tool that leverages the collective attention of Pi and not only supports apps and tools through the power of the Pi community, but also differentiates itself from typical Web2 app rating systems that are largely driven by either rigid algorithms creating information silos or advertising companies. This feature supports a cycle designed to increase quality and decentralize influence within the Pi network .
Integration with third-party Onramper and On-Ramp services
Pi Wallet now integrates On-ramper , a third-party service aggregator verified by KYB that simplifies on-ramper services for Pioneers. Pioneers can access Onramper via their Pi Wallet and select their preferred KYB-compatible on-ramper services, subject to regional availability and other restrictions. This integration offers more Pioneers a more efficient way to engage with the Mainnet ecosystem. Accessibility will be rolled out gradually over the next week.
Node Update: Node Version 0.5.2 and Node Rating Page
It was released Node version 0.5.2, which includes several key updates:
- The application has been renamed to Pi Desktop and includes both the Pi Node and Pi mining apps. This change allows the app to be more general, accurate, and open to current and future desktop integrations that are not necessarily Node-related, such as accessing Pi App Studio on a large computer monitor. (To open App Studio on the Pi Desktop, select Pi Utilities from the Ξ hamburger menu in the Pi App tab.)
- Overall, safety has improved.
- Pioneers can view their public key directly in the Nodes section to identify their node on the Node Ranking page. This public key can be used to verify and identify the user's node.
- The desktop application window can be modified for better usability with certain features, such as Pi App Studio.
New node rating page in Pi Blockexplorer displays the top 5 Pi nodes based on key performance metrics, including reliability, availability, open ports, total active days, and CPU performance. The rankings are refreshed every 000 hours to reflect the most up-to-date data from the network. This page helps highlight the most stable and high-performing nodes that contribute to the Pi ecosystem.
Mainnet Migration and KYC Update: Unlocking Over 500 More Pioneers
Recent mainnet migration and KYC updates have allowed more Pioneer Network users to opt in to migrate. These updates have unlocked over 500 additional Pioneer Network users who were previously unable to proceed, on top of the regular migration flow, which has seen over 000 million Pioneer Network users migrate since the launch of the Open Network.
One KYC update in particular helped unblock Pioneers in certain regions with specific issues that required additional verification of their preliminary KYC status in order to achieve their final KYC status and continue the migration process to the mainnet.
The migration process has also been improved by introducing dedicated blockchain API servers that are separate from other blockchain traffic. This helps improve the stability and throughput of the migration.
Pioneers may still need to complete certain actions before the migration can take place. The exact timing will depend on when each individual completes these steps, but they are no longer constrained by the system limitations that previously prevented them from migrating.
.pi domain auction extension
As mentioned in a previous blog, .pi domains are intended to serve as functional Web3 identifiers – as anchors for Pi-based applications, services, and stores. With the release of Pi App Studio, where many more pioneers will be able to build and run their own applications and thus need domains to use with their applications, the .pi domain auction deadline is being extended to September 30, 2025, to give pioneers more time to innovate and develop functional applications and to bid on the desired .pi domains for their applications.
Pi2Day Interactive Ecosystem Challenge
To celebrate various ecosystem updates and tools supporting Pi2Day, Pioneers can participate in a contest Pi2Day Ecosystem Challenge The competition will guide Pioneers through a variety of new features, including many of those announced in this announcement, and help them explore the Pi ecosystem and Pi products. Pioneers will also receive fun digital prizes after completing certain levels of steps!
